The Macau Black Bears came out on top after surviving the Formosa Dreamers in the clash between two of the top ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) teams, 116-110.
It took an all-around team effort to go with a stellar outing from Anthony Tucker for the home team to claim a close victory over the equally formidable Dreamers of Taiwan. The reigning World Import Most Valuable Player never sat, finishing with 43 points, 10 assists, and four rebounds, while shooting 7-for-12 from deep.
Formosa was missing the services of import Will Artino, who hurt his ankle after completing dunk against two defenders during their match against the Singapore Slingers.
The game was tight throughout, both teams even tied at 108-apiece with 57 seconds remaining, but Macau was able to pull through with eight made free throws to seal the deal.
Black Bears center Ryan Watkins had a double-double of 15 points and 15 boards, while Filipino-American guard Mikh McKinney also played the entire game, chipping in with 14 points and seven dimes. Locals Nathan Yu and Liu Zankun also added 16 markers each.
Meanwhile, the remaining Dreamers imports also showed out and had very efficient outings. Tevin Glass matched Tucker’s 43 points while shooting an impressive 75 percent from the field, while Malcolm Miller added 29 points of his own (73 percent field goal shooting), but the duo had little help in the loss. Chen Hsiao Jung was the only local to reach double-figures with 12.
With the win, the Black Bears climbed to take the solo second spot with six wins and two losses, ahead of both the Singapore Slingers (6-3) and the Dreamers, who now fall to fourth at 7-4.
Both teams return to action on January 13th as the Dreamers host the league-leading San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, while the Black Bears travel to Surabaya to play the CLS Knights Indonesia.
