Vietnamese fans were given a glimpse of Chris Dierker’s abilities during his rookie season of the Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) in 2018. It appears they won’t have to wait long to see him in action again.
According to a source, the Vietnamese-American Dierker is confirmed to be returning to Vietnam to don the red, yellow, and black as a member of the Saigon Heat for ABL 9. Dierker will be joining forces with fellow 2018 VBA rookie Corey Cilia, along with veterans Khoa Tran and Justin Young in what is already looking to be a promising 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) cast for the Heat.
Dierker had just finished his first professional season with the VBA’s Danang Dragons in 2018, and despite missing the playoffs, his size and athleticism allowed him to be an immediate force in the league. During his rookie season, Dierker averaged 20.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and one block per game while anchoring an injury-plagued Dragons squad along with world import Zachary Allmon.
With his 6-foot-7 frame, Dierker offers a considerable jump in size as a designated local player as opposed to what was available for the Heat in previous seasons. A pairing with the already confirmed Justin Young should have Saigon Heat fans salivating at the potential their team can do defensively for the upcoming season.
