Hong Kong Eastern secures their fourth-straight victory, while also sweeping their season series for the second year in a row against the Singapore Slingers after an 88-81 victory at home.

The first three quarters were a back and forth battle between the two teams. The first half ended with a one point advantage for the visitors. Singapore did have a nine-point lead once in the second period but a 16-3 run in the middle of the last quarter would seal the deal for the Long Lions.

O’Darien Bassett had an excellent outing, finishing with 26 markers after scoring 15 points in the last 10 minutes that included a dagger three-pointer to give Eastern its biggest lead of the game.

Samuel Deguara showed flashes of himself from last season with season-high 18 boards, 17 points and shot 61 percent from the floor, while Marcus Elliot contributed 22 points, eight rebounds and four dimes. Local veteran players Lee Ki and Chan Siu Wing added seven and nine points respectively.

For Singapore, Xavier Alexander moved closer to becoming the ABL all-time leading scorer with 29 points to go along with seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals, while John Fields had his seventh double-double of the season with 23 and 11.

Jerran Young however failed to match his outstanding performance in Taiwan on Sunday, recording only 11 points on 38 percent shooting. None of the local Singapore players scored more than six points.

Slingers dropped to sixth on the standings (6 wins against 4 losses) but they have played one game less than Hong Kong, Saigon and Formosa, whose records are all 7-4.

Coach Neo Beng Siang will look to level this record by getting back in win column at Zhuhai on January 11th. At the same time, Eastern’s streak will be challenged with a trip to Santa Rosa to face the defending champions San Miguel Alab Pilipinas.
