The Fubon Braves held an introductory press conference for their biggest star for the upcoming season of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

Chinese Taipei’s defending Super Basketball League (SBL) champion Fubon Braves presented high-profile star Lin Chih-Chieh in front of members of the media today at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium.

“I have played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for many years, so this is a great opportunity for me to come back,” Lin remarked in Chinese. “Coming back and play for Fubon allow me to have more time to be around and take care of my family.”

Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, Lin is known throughout Asia for his three-point shooting and is regarded as one of the best players from Taiwan.

He has won two championship in his six seasons in the SBL, while also reaching the league’s first 3000 points and 1000 rebound milestones. Lin had also won the scoring title, and Finals MVP awards during his time with the Taiwan Beer team.

In a high-profile move, Lin then made a jump to the CBA in 2009, joining the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions and becoming the first SBL star to transfer to the CBA.

After playing 10 seasons in China, Lin was widely expected to attempt to make a move back home this offseason, and with the SBL in shambles, joining the Braves in the ABL seemed to be a no-brainer.

He also expressed his excitement to play in the regional league: “As a professional basketball player, we always want to play in a better platform to showcase our value (to team).”

Lin is popular among Asian fans for his many international competitions with the Chinese Taipei team, reaching the peak of their success when they defeated the hosts Philippines to advance to the semifinals of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championships, where he was named the best small forward in Asia.
