With their backs against the wall, the BTN CLS Knights played inspired as they defeat the Singapore Slingers in Game 4 of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Finals.
The Knights even the series at two-games apiece after securing the 87-74 victory in front of a sold out GOR Kertajaya crowd, forcing a decider back in Singapore on Wednesday.
Looking to finish the series on the road, Singapore immediately hit the ground running to start the game. They raced to an early 10-2 lead, before the home squad answered back with eight unanswered points to tie the game halfway through the opening period.
The Knights opened the second quarter with a slim three-point advantage that swelled up to 14 after Darryl Watkins made a lay-up with eight seconds remaining in the first half.
Brandon Jawato hit back-to-back threes two minutes into the third period to further extend their lead, 54-36. He hit another corner three, followed by a baseline jumper from Douglas Herring to give them their biggest lead of the game 22 with a little over five minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Slingers were able to cut their deficit to as low as 12 multiple times in the final period, but the Knights were able to hold fort and hold on to the win.
Darryl Watkins led all scorers to finish with 28 points to go with 16 boards, while Maxie Esho and Brandon Jawato added 20 and 17 points, respectively.
Xavier Alexander led the Singapore side with 25 points, seven boards, and five dimes, while Jerran Young struggled offensively to finish with 13 markers. John Fields finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out early in the fourth period.
The do-or-die Game 5 of the championship series shifts back to the OCBC Arena in Singapore on Wednesday, May 15th.
