The Singapore Slingers have announced the signing of former ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) World Import MVP Marcus Elliott in hopes of capturing the team’s first championship in 2019-20.

After falling just one victory shy of winning its first ABL title last season, in its third trip to the league’s finals, the Singapore Slingers made a strong case for a return trip in 2019-20 with the addition of Marcus Elliott.

As an import for Hong Kong Eastern from 2016-19, the American guard led the team to playoff appearances in each of his three seasons, including a championship in Eastern’s first league campaign, when he was also named ABL World Import MVP.

Last season, the 6-foot-3 guard posted averages of 22.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 35 percent from the perimeter.

Elliott will join 2019 ABL Import MVP Xavier Alexander, who the Slingers announced would be returning to the team back in August. In Elliott and Alexander, the Singapore squad not only has two former MVP’s on its roster, but also two players who rank among the best in league history.

Currently, Elliott sits in third place on the ABL all-time scoring list, and second in all-time triple-doubles, while Alexander ranks first in the same two categories.

The combination of Elliott and Alexander creates a formidable duo, and perhaps, the league’s scariest backcourt, which the Slingers hope could be the formula for bringing home its first ABL championship that has eluded them so many times before in the past.
