The Singapore Slingers took a step closer to catching the Formosa Dreamers in the league standings after stopping them on the road, 88-80.

The game ended with a controversial dunk by Slingers import John Fields with the outcome already decided, being up by six with three seconds left in the game. Needless to say, the Dreamers were livid and the away team exited the court to a chorus of boos from the crowd.

Going into intermission, the Slingers trailed by just a single possession after a close first half. Coming out of it, they banked on a huge third quarter to pull away, successfully maintaining a lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Jerran Young led all scorers with 27 points to go with 11 rebounds and five dimes, while John Fields added 20 markers and 15 boards. Xavier Alexander and Ng Han Bin added 17 and 14 markers for Singapore, respectively.

Kenny Chien paced the home squad with 23 points, four assists, and four steals, while Formosa’s three imports combined for just 49 points. To make matters worse, no other player tallied more than three points in the loss.

With the win, the Slingers improved to 6-3 and remain in hot pursuit of the third place Dreamers (7-3), and only a game behind the second seeded Macau Black Bears (5-2).

Both teams will get back on the road on January 9th as the Dreamers face off against a tough Macau squad, while the Slingers face another acid test against Hong Kong Eastern.
