The Westports Malaysia Dragons signed swingman Cade Davis as their third import for the upcoming ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) season.
Australian head coach Jamie Pearlman had previously shared his idea on bringing in a swingman to boost up his squad during the ABL press conference, while China Press senior reporter Jordan Yap first confirmed the signing.
The former Oklahoma Sooner will be joining fellow Americans Amir Bell and William Artino as they try to lead the Malaysian squad to a playoff appearance around after missing the postseason three years in a row.
The 31 year-old veteran had previously played across Europe countries like Finland, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and Macedonia. Davis averaged 12.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while also recording a career-high 43.1% shooting from beyond the arc during his last stint with Okapi Aalstar in Belgium.
The 6-foot-5 Davis is regarded as a team oriented off-ball shooter throughout his career. His leadership and rich experience in Europe are expected to be valuable assets to the young and hungry Dragons team.
With this addition, the Dragons have formed themselves a promising lineup that feature uprising youngsters like Simeon Lepichev and Amir Bell, while players with ABL experience such as Artino, Kuek Tian Yuan and Loh Shee Fai are going to be the team’s other go-to-guys.
The former ABL champion will participate in MABA International Basketball Invitational on the 22nd to 27th of October 2019 at MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They will then open their tenth ABL campaign against Fubon Braves away from home at 17th of November 2019.
