The Wolf Warriors have now tied the Mono Vampire Basketball Club in the wins department after beating them at home, 119-114.
The new-look Mono Vampire squad was unable to find their rhythm during the first three minutes of the game, before center Malcom White put up eight consecutive points to allow his team hold an early lead. Both teams played fast-paced, with the Wolf Warriors ending the first quarter with a nine-point lead.
Zhuhai’s Wolf Warriors had their lead cut to just two points after Freddie Lish nailed two triples for the visiting team, but both Shawntez Patterson and Zhong Xian Chao returned the favor from the perimeter in the following possessions. The home team were able to extend their lead to 12 points after Patterson and Mike Taylor put up efficient offensive performances on the first half.
The home team continue to displayed hot shooting from deep, further extending the lead after Liu Xu was fouled by Chitchai Ananti on the three-point line. Darongpan Apiromvilaichai forced Taylor to commit his fourth personal foul late in the third quarter, but Wolf Warriors locals stepped up and maintained the lead in double figures with Liu and Cai Chen’s consistent contribution.
Thai-American Tyler Lamb led Mono to a quick 10-0 run at the beginning of fourth quarter, but Cai dropped five points to forced his opposition to called a time out. The visiting team committed a few unforced turnovers to the Wolf Warriors, and that allowed the home team to earned their second victory of the season in front of their home crowd.
All of the Wolf Warriors’ starters had double figures in scoring, led by Mike Taylor’s 39 points and eight assists, while Cai added 20 points and 10 boards. The team shot 60 percent from beyond the arc in the win.
Although the visiting team had 42 fast break points, they also gave away 21 turnovers in the game. Mike Singletary had a triple-double with 26 points, 11 boards and 12 dimes, while fellow import Malcolm White had 33 points and 10 boards. Tyler Lamb and Freddie Lish showed off their versatility, however it was not enough for their team to pulled off a win.
Both teams, who have only notched two wins so far, will have their rematch on the 2nd of February, this time in Mono Vampire’s home floor at the Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
