The Indonesian Men’s Basketball National Team drop to 1-5 at the 2019 William Jones Cup, after a 94-66 blowout at the hands of Mighty Sports Philippines.

After winning against the University of British Columbia (Canada) to open the tournament, Indonesia proceeded to lose their next four games by an average margin of 46 points going into their game against the heavily-reinforced Philippine club.

The all-Indonesian squad tried their best to keep pace, however, playing without import CJ Giles against a Mighty Sports squad who fielded four of their five foreign players simply put them in a severely handicapped position.

Mighty Sports led by 15 points at halftime, before extending it to a 28-point advantage at the end of the third quarter. Indonesia was able to match the Philippine club’s output in the final period, partly owing to most of the imports being pulled out late in the match.

As one of the few former National Team members, Juan Laurent Kokodiputra starred for Indonesia with 21 points and three boards, while young guard Indra Muhammad added 11 points after a hot start in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, imports Eugene Phelps and Renaldo Balkman had 19 and 17 points for Mighty Sports, while veteran Filipino guard Joseph Yeo turned back the clock to add 14 markers off the bench.

Indonesia will try to bounce back as they are set to battle Chinese Taipei B on the 20th as the 2019 William Jones Cup continue at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
