Mighty Sports-Philippines salvaged their campaign with the bronze medal in the 30th Dubai International Basketball Championship.
After going undefeated in five outings, Mighty Sports fell in a close contest to the eventual champions, Al-Riyadi, during the semifinal knockout round.
The Philippine representatives repeated against Homenetmen Club of Lebanon in the third place match, 91-76, after beating them once in the prelimary round.
Import Justin Brownlee took a step back and allowed his teammates to carry the load in their final game of the tournament. Jett Manuel led the Philippine side in scoring with 19, while Randolph Morris added 11.
Playing without Walter Munoz, who scored 42 points during their first meeting, Jerar Hadidan led the Lebanese side with 23 points and eight boards, while veteran Elie Rustom added 20.
Meanwhile, Al Riyadi made quick work of fellow Lebanese squad Beirut Sport Club in the championship game, leading by double-digits for most of the game before settling for an 88-80 decision to win the gold.
Mighty Sports achieved the best finish from a Philippine representative after winning six of their seven outings and maling the semifinal round, a stark contrast to their lackluster debut stint in 2017 where the team only managed to win once in seven games.
