Just after the Guangzhou Long Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) were crowned as the Asia League Summer Super 8 Champions, the tournament organizing body has already announced the participating teams in the upcoming Terrific 12 tournament on September.

Positioning themselves as the top preseason tournament in the region, Asia League has successfully concluded their second Summer Super 8 with eight professional teams including ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) club Formosa Dreamers from Chinese Taipei, Blackwater Elite and the NLEX Road Warriors from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Incheon Electroland Elephants and Seoul Samsung Thunders from Korea Basketball League (KBL), Japan’s B-league Division II Champions Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka, and CBA’s Xinjiang Flying Tigers and the eventual champions Guangzhou.

For the upcoming event in September, they have expanded the pool to have twelve teams participating as suggested by the tournament title. The teams will be CBA’s Shandong Hi-speed Golden Stars, Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, KBL’s Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus and Seoul Samsung Thunders, the Fubon Braves and Yulon Luxgen Dinos for Taiwan’s Super Basketball League (SBL), and Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, Ryukyu Golden Kings, and last year’s Super 8 Champions Chiba Jets from Japan’s B.LEAGUE. There will be two yet to be determined teams from the Philippines.

“We are proud to bring The Terrific 12 to Macau, along with our co-organizers, the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government. The tournament will see the best in Asian basketball talent compete for the title in a world class venue,” said Matt Beyer, CEO of Asia League Limited.

“We sincerely hope that the tournament will not only offer great entertainment, but create a stage to show the world the rapid development and increasing competitiveness of Asian basketball,” added Beyer.

Unlike the Super 8 where teams were represented by all-local lineups, the Terrific 12 will banner two foreign imports per team to help raise the level of competition even further. The return of at least five previously participated teams also serves as testament to the quality of the Asia League as one of the best available international preseason tilts.

The Asia League Terrific 12 Tournament will be held on September 18-23 at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, SAR.
