Two ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) teams have confirmed their participation in the 2nd MABA International Basketball Invitation in October as part of their preparation for the upcoming season.
The Formosa Dreamers and Westports Malaysia Dragons will join the Malaysian Men’s National Team, China Xiamen Team, Wah Chin Kings (Australia), and defending champions ACBA Dragons (Australia) in the second edition of the MABA International Basketball Invitation.
In the women’s category, the defending champion Malaysian Wormen’s National Team will be joined by Fo Guang University (Taiwan), Tohoku Gakuin University (Japan), Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan) and China Fujian Team.
The tournament will mainly serve as a platform for both Malaysian national teams to prepare for the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) that is set to take place in the Philippines in November.
Last season’s number one seeded Dreamers, who crashed out in the first round of the 2019 ABL playoffs, is expected to have a new look without head coach Dean Murray and import Will Artino, who are not returning to the team.
The Westports Malaysia Dragons will be bolstered by the return of key local Kuek Tian Yuan, who resigned with the team after leaving Malaysian club NS Matrix. The team will look to use this tournament to kickstart its campaign to qualifying for the postseason after missing out in the last three seasons.
The MABA International Basketball Invitational tournament is set to take place at MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 22nd to 27th of October 2019.
