The Formosa Dreamers continued their unbeaten run after winning against regional rivals Hong Kong Eastern, 81-71.
The Taiwanese side improved to 5-0 after holding off the former ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) champs on their home floor, giving them back-to-back wins against the Long Lions.
Samuel Deguara instilled his height advantage, but Dreamers imports Malcolm Miller and Tevin Glass helped ensured their team will have the lead at the end of first quarter. The latter even threw down a poster dunk into the 7’5” Maltese center to put Dreamers’ momentum on high note.
The Dreamers led by as much as 12 after a William Artino’s lay-up at the 5:39 mark of the second quarter. While Eastern wasn’t able to find any basket for almost five minutes until Marcus Elliott scored five quick-points to stop the bleeding of his team. Formosa’s Glass nailed in a buzzer beater jumper to gave his team a 47 to 33 lead into the half time.
The home team continued to capitalized Eastern’s sloppy turnovers and bad shooting, further extended the lead into 17 points after three and a half minutes of play in the third quarter. Though Eric Ferguson and Tsz Lai Lau each swished in a three pointer to cut the deficit for Eastern, they were unable to stop their Taiwanese opponent as a collective unit.
With the Dreamers’ relentless pesky defense and smooth offense, the lead stayed at 16 points at the end of third quarter. Crowd-favorite Miller nailed in a three in response to Chan Siu Wing;s long bomb in the previous possession early of the fourth quarter. Then teammate Artino displayed a crafty lay-up to forced Eastern in calling a quick time-out. The visiting Eastern team were not able to carry enough momentum to complete a comeback.
Tevin Glass ended the game with 26 points and 16 rebounds, while never missing a shot from the charity stripe. Will Artino and Malcolm Miller contributed 16 and 12 points respectively, where the latter adding six boards and six dimes.
Former ABL World Import MVP Marcus Elliott led his team in almost every category, with 21 points, 12 boards and six assists, but the 18 team turnovers proved to be the decisive factor of their fourth loss of the season.
The Formosa Dreamers will visit Mono Vampire in Thailand on December 15, while Hong Kong Eastern will play their next game against Singapore Slingers on 21st at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
