The Fubon Braves were unable to stop Muharraq late in the game to lose, 81-85, at the 2019 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Muharraq kept the game close early and took a five-point lead against Chinese Taipei’s champion club, 39-35, to the end of first half. Import Kevin Murphy already had 20 points in two quarters of playing time alone.

Both teams proved to be resilient in the second half, especially the West Asian team, who heated up from deep during the final quarter. Filipino-Bahraini Bader Malabes’ hot hands in the clutch helped ensured his team a crucial victory in the group stage.

Murphy led the team with 33 points and grabbed a total of 11 rebounds, while Malabes added 16 points. Ahmed Alderazi also contributed 12 points, all from beyond three-point line.

The Braves relied heavily on their imports duo to carried out the scoring duties. 7-footer Sim Bhullar had a massive double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds, while all-around forward Charles Garcia topped up a similar effort with 22 points and 13 boards.

After beating Fubon, Muharraq Club will play against Al-Riyadi of Lebanon in the semi-finals of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, while the Braves are set to face the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the classification round.
