The Fubon Braves edged out Hitech Bangkok City in the second half to score a 88-69 victory to open their 2019 FIBA Asia Champions Cup campaign in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
After a closely fought first half where Hitech held a slim advantage, the Braves managed to pull off a 21-point turnaround in a solid third quarter effort to take a commanding 67-52 lead, before holding on to close out the Thai squad in the final period.
Imports Sim Bhullar and Charles Garcia each finished with a double-double for Fubon. Bhullar had 23 and 14, while Garcia finished with 21 and 14 of his own. Locals Chang Po Wei and Tsai Wen-Cheng chipped in with a combined 21 markers for the Chinese Taipei’s champion club.
Meanwhile, Nino Johnson led Hitech with 18 points and 14 boards, while fellow import Xavier Alexander added 15 points and 10 rebounds. However, the usually prolific Alexander struggled to find his shot and finished 4-for-15 from the field.
The FIBA Asia Champions Cup action continues tomorrow for both teams as the Fubon Braves battle Iranian club Naft Abadan at 1300H (GMT+7), while Hitech Bangkok City is set to face Muharraq of Bahrain at 1800H, still at Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
