The Philippine Men’s National Basketball Team have arrived in Spain for a pair of friendlies and a pocket tournament as part of their preparation for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

The Filipinos are first scheduled to play tuneup games against the national teams of Congo and Ivory Coast, before all three teams take part in a short tournament just two days after.

In the tourney, they will once again face the Congolese squad, in which the winner advances to meet the winner of the other bracket consisting of hosts Spain and the Ivorians.

The Philippines’ Spain Training Camp Schedule:
August 6 – Philippines v Congo (Practice)
August 7 – Philippines v Ivory Coast (Practice)
August 9 – Philippines v Congo (Tournament)
August 10 – TBA (Tournament)

Longtime National Team members Gabe Norwood, Japeth Aguilar, Matthew Wright, John Paul Erram, Paul Lee Dalistan, Beau Belga, and naturalized player Andray Blatche are joined by young guns Robert Bolick, Jaymar ‘CJ’ Perez in the lineup.

Also rejoining the squad are Gilas Pilipinas pioneer Mark Barroca, and Kiefer Ravena, who has yet to be cleared from his FIBA suspension but will join the team as a practice player.

Nearly half of the players selected by head coach Joseller ‘Yeng’ Guiao to be included in the selection pool missed the Spain trip, including June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Christian Standhardinger, Troy Rosario, and Roger Pogoy, who are all currently seeing action in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Finals back in Manila.

Forward Raymond Almazan also reportedly failed to acquire an entry visa, while Stanley Pringle and Marcio Lassiter were also ruled out due to injuries.

Gilas Pilipinas gear up to play the first of back-to-back games against the African squads tomorrow in Guadalajara, before travelling down to the Spanish coastal city of Malaga to take part in the pocket tournament on the 9th.
