With the upcoming change in ABL local eligibility rules, the 2015/2016 ABL Champions, the KL Dragons wasted no time in signing 21 year British Malaysian combo guard, Calvin Tse for an upcoming pocket tournament, the Malaysia Hoops Challenge scheduled for mid September . The tournament would serve as a trial for Tse for a potential contract for the upcoming ABL Season.

Tse will be the first ever overseas born player of Malaysian heritage set to play for the team.

The 6 ft 2 Tse, whose Malaysian heritage is by way of his mother, hails from Oxfordshire,England. He began playing basketball at a young age, quickly falling in love with the game, despite hailing from a football crazy nation.

Tse would excel at high school basketball with Cherwell School in Oxfordshire before being offered a basketball scholarship to the Italian Prep Academy based in Fabriano, Italy. His performances at the academy would get him signed to play semi professional basketball in Italy with Ascoli Basket, a Seria D Italian club. Tse would spend two years playing for Ascoli Basket, playing 48 games and averaged 6.1 PPG.

In a quick chat with ASEAN Sports, Tse stated that he’s excited to play professional basketball in Asia and looks forward to bring his experience from Europe to the team. He believes he can contribute with his size and athleticism to the team. He also believes that being vocal is a very important part of the game and will look to bring that aspect to the team as well.

As he speaks fluent Cantonese with a basic understanding of Mandarin, Tse believes he can blend in quickly with the local players as well to build strong locker room chemistry.

Tse will make his debut for the KL Dragons at the Malaysia Hoops Challenge scheduled for the 12th to 16th of September at MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
