NS Matrix 77  New Ampang Youth Club 52

NS Matrix continues their unbeaten start to the Malaysia Pro League Development League, stretching their win streak to four defeating the New Ampang Youth Club (NAYC) with a resounding score of 77-52. NAYC, confident from their opening victory against Verve Club, surprised Matrix with a 9-1 scoring run at the end of the first quarter, taking a 25-16 lead despite missing the services of former ABL KL Dragons guard, Ho Yeow Loong. This would prove to be the wake up call for Matrix as they stepped up their efforts both on offense and defense, allowing NAYC only one field goal in the second quarter. Led by Liew Wei Yuong with 11 points in the second quarter alone, Matrix would have a 26-3 quarter easily taking control off the game.

Matrix would not look back and kept their focus to the resounding 25 point victory at the final buzzer. They would have four player in double digits scoring with their best player being Liew with yet another double double, 14 points and 11 rebounds along with 3 assists. NAYC’s lack of chemistry on offense would be their downfall with many forced shots and only five assists. They would only shoot 31% from the field, led by Jagadhess Rao Marimuthu with 12 points.

Red Baron 72 Verve Club 52

Red Baron make their MPL D League debut after representing Malaysia at the SEABA Champions Championship in Thailand earlier going up against the winless Verve Club eager to get their first victory. Red Baron’s early jitters would show with Verve Club grabbing a 13-7 lead after the first. Red Baron would have eight turnovers in the first quarter alone. The second quarter would see a different affair with Red Baron overcoming the nerves. Back to back three pointers by Addy Tung Chee Keong (signed from KL Dragons) would give Red Baron the one point lead going into the halftime break

Verve would manage to regain the lead early in the third off a basket by Wong Qi Ren but that would be the beginning of the end for Verve as Red Baron streaked off to a 18-1 run focusing their attack in the paint using their height advantage. Red Baron would not let up for the rest of the game, leading by as many as 24. The final buzzer would blow in favor of Red Baron with the 72-52 win leaving Verve winless (0-3)

Red Baron’s height advantage would be the story of the game scoring 40 points in the paint with four players scoring double digits. Their best player was sharpshooter Keng Eng Hong who led the team with 12 points (three 3 pointers)  and 5 rebounds

It would be a horrible shooting night for Vervé’s veteran guard duo of Soo Eng Heng and Wee Chuan Chin who combined for 4/29 from the field as they were unable to lead their young teammates to victory. Verve’s best player would be Wong Qi Ren with 13 points
