NS Matrix 82 Melaka 96ers 55

NS Matrix continues to impress with a dominant 82-55 victory over the Melaka 96ers. This would be push to Matrix to an 6-0 record .They have been the only team to play all 6 MPL D League game days so far. Melaka remain winless and falls to a 0-2 record

Melaka were not able to lead at any point of the game despite the efforts of Tan Wei Jie who had 27 points. Melaka showed their exhaustion throughout the game after losing a grueling overtime game the day before. Matrix’s superior stamina clearly showed with their players looking fresh the entire game, keeping their defensive discipline at all times forcing Melaka to a 28% shooting game. Matrix never looked like losing control from start to finish and finished with four players in double digits scoring.

It would be a breakout game for Matrix big man, Anthony Liew who finished with 22 points and seven rebounds but more importantly, was key to their inside defense holding former national team center, Chee Li Wei to only five points on 2/14 shooting.

The best player of the team would be Chang Zi Fueng, with an impressive 20 points (including five three pointers) and 18 rebounds which is the most by any player thus far for the season

PRG Warriors 65 Verve Club 61

Verve Club fall to their fourth straight defeat and remain winless as they gave up a 16 point lead to the PRG Warriors who mounted a hard fought comeback for the victory after coming short on another comeback attempt against the KL Dragons the night before.

Verve, led by the hot shooting of Lee Kok Hou and Soo Eng Heng, would think that their first victory of the campaign would be coming as they held PRG to only 3 FGs in the first quarter. PRG were however determined not to taste defeat for the second day in a row and stepped up the defensive intensity with numerous full court presses which led to 29 turnovers for Verve in total for the night

Despite Verve leading by as many as 15 early in the third quarter, PRG would remain calm and through key baskets by Thea Zhong Shin, Tan Wen Gio and Liew Kar Choon, they would slowly chip away at the lead until a three pointer by Lewis Inpik gave them the lead early in the fourth quarter. Verve who were playing with mainly a seven man rotation began to show signs of fatigue in the fourth and missed opportunities to tie the game through Soo and Wee Chuan Chin. PRG would hold firm and sealed the victory with made free throws by Tong Weng Keong and Liew.

The best player of the game would be Liew Kar Choon who finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds

At the conclusion of Week 3 of the MPL D League, the standings would be as follows:-
