Red Baron 76 NS Matrix 62

Red Baron breaks the league leader’s undefeated run in impressive fashion, defeating NS Matrix 76-62, sending a league a strong bounce back statement after losing their last two games. Matrix never led for the entire game and faced a Red Baron defense who were on point the entire game, maintaining a disciplined zone and help defense that limited Matrix to only two players in double digits scoring.

Red Baron displayed much patience on offense, opting to focus their efforts in the paint. They would score 52/76 points in the paint led by an array of a mid range and short jumpers by Lim Jian Yu who had 16 points on 8/10 shooting. Matrix would also have no answer for Goh Yan Qing and Chong Chee Hou who both had impressive games with 15 and 18 points respectively. Red Baron would end the game with an impressive 48% shooting

Red Baron’s best player would be Chong Chee Hou with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. He was a constant thorn to Matrix with his inside and outside offense and hustle on defense and rebounding.

NS Matrix’s record now stands at 8-1 as they take a one month break from the MPL D League with the organization shifting their focus to managing the Malaysian National Team who will be participating at the FIBA Asia 2021 Championship Pre Qualifiers in Bangkok at the end of June.

Verve Club 62 Seven Star 59

Verve would emerge victorious in the clash between the two teams without a win thus far in the MPL D League 2018 season.

Victory would be sweet for Verve and they would breathe a sigh of relief after they withstood a furious late game rally by Seven Star after leading by 16 with 7 minutes to go. This would almost be the story of Verve’s season thus far with late game collapses being common in their games.

Seven Star showed grit and determination despite being down by 11 at the 2:46 mark of the fourth quarter. Three pointers by Liew Onn Wan and Chew Shau Jian managed to cut the lead to two with 36 seconds to go. A critical five second turnover by Vervé’s Wee Chuan Chin would then give Seven Star an opportunity to tie the game. Unfortunately for them, Yim Shen Hao would fail to convert and Wee would then make a free throw for Verve to make it a three point game with 11 seconds to go. A desperation three point attempt by Ng Jien Jiek would not fall, sending Seven Star to their fifth straight defeat.

Seven Star’s painful season continues with four of their defeats being by single digits

The player of the game would be Verve’s veteran guard Soo Eng Heng with a MVP like performance of 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals on 5/7 three point shooting.
