PRG Warriors 72 Farmco Knights 68

The PRG Warriors edged the Farmco Knights in an exciting encounter that saw several lead changes throughout the game. Farmco would be missing the services of resting big man, Wong Chin Yong.

It would be a close back and forth game for the first three quarters capped off by a buzzer beating desperation three point attempt from the center circle for Farmco’s Lee Kwong Fai to give them a one point lead going into the fourth.

PRG’s Thea Zhong Shin would step up in the fourth quarter , scoring all ten of his points in the fourth. He would put them up by seven with two minutes remaining .Farmco’s Tem Zhen Jie would then drill two back to back three pointers which was followed by an inside basket by Choo Wei Hong which saw Farmco regaining the lead with 1:20 remaining. A pair of split free throws by PRG’s Liew Kar Choon would tie the game before a strong move to the basket by Farmco’s Ong Chin Yuen regained their two point advantage with 1:02 remaining.

Ong would soon after turn from hero to villain by fouling PRG’s Tan Wen Gio’s three point attempt which was successful and allowed PRG to convert the four point play that gave them the lead for good. Farmco would be left with the dejavu feeling, again committing turnovers in similar fashion as their previous game, robbing themselves of the opportunity to salvage the game. With the victory, PRG would extend their win streak to four and Farmco would be left in a difficult position to qualify for the playoffs

The best player of the game would be PRG’s Liew Kar Choon with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

PRG’s Tong Wen Keong was key to the win with nine assists

KL Dragons 63 Melaka 96ers 58

The KL Dragons secured their fourth victory in a row, fending off a spirited undermanned Melaka 96ers who were missing their leading scorer Tan Wei Jie and captain Chee Li Wei.

The Dragon’s leading scorer, Chiang Wei Er was determined to shake off his poor shooting game the previous day and exploded for ten points in the first quarter alone giving the Dragons a 12 point lead at the end of the first. The young Melaka line up would not be overwhelmed with the situation, and exploded with six three pointers in the second quarter, three of them coming from Wee Yong Gan. The rest of the game would go on in a similar pattern of the Dragons pulling away slightly before Melaka chip away at the lead due to their relentless defense which forced 27 Dragons turnovers for the game.

Back to back three pointers by Wee Joon Lock and Lee Hong Ming drew Melaka to within a point of the Dragons with three minutes remaining for the game. The Dragons would not call a timeout and kept their composure with Chin Cheng Wah driving inside to draw the defense before kicking out to the wide open hot shooting Chiang who nailed the cold blooded three pointer to restore the Dragon’s breathing space. The Dragon’s would not let up their defense in the closing stages and it would be Chiang again nailing the dagger jumper with 1:30 remaining which ended all hopes of another Melaka comeback.

The player of the game would be none other than Chiang, whose 30 points performance would be the highest scoring performance so far for the MPL D League season. He would complete the night with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists on 13/20 shooting including three three pointers.

KL Dragons’s Joshua Gan Teck Hwa would keep up his fine rebounding form with 11 rebounds

New Ampang Youth Club 73 Verve Club 65

NAYC bounced back from their previous game overtime loss with a victory over Verve Club who were not able to overcome their game fatigue, playing three games in three days over the weekend.

Verve were not able to lead for the entire game and would pay dearly for their poor shooting in the first three quarters of the game which saw them being down by as many as 23 early in the third after a three pointer by Syahrul Ridzuan Rosli for NAYC. NAYC would end the third with a 20 point lead. NAYC’s deep rotation was key in wearing out Verve for the first three quarters.

Just like their previous games, Verve would seem to shift into second gear in the fourth, in a desperate attempt to get back into the game . Led by the inspired play of Soo Eng Heng, Verve would be able to cut the deficit to six with 2:18 remaining. NAYC’s Vincent Choong Yuen Yew would proceed to put the result beyond doubt with a key three pointer off a great pass by Mohd Qabil Qaliph with 1:30 remaining to seal the victory
