Farmco Touch Up sealed second place of the preliminary round of the Malaysia Pro League in style defeating Verve Club 90-66.

This would be the match to determine the second spot of the preliminary round to earn an automatic ticket into the semifinals. Verve were without American import, Daniel Camps who was rested due to minor injuries.

Farmco would race to a quick start from a fast break lay up made by Tem Zhen Jie which was quickly replied by a jumper from Soo Eng Heng. Verve looked unable to cope with the size of the huge 7 ft 5 Samuel Deguara without help from Camps, leading to Farmco leading by ten midway through the first. A three pointer from Soo could cut the gap to eight but Cameroonian, Chris Kuete would be quick to score again ensuring carried a 10 point lead to the end the first 23-13 with their tight defense forcing Verve to a dismal 23% shooting.

Farmco kept the pace quick going on a 9-0 run at the start of the second off baskets from Kuete, Deguara and Wong Chin Yong before a basket by Verve big man Goh Yan Qin broke the run. Another three from Soo would reduce the deficit to 14 making it the closest Verve would be able to get to Farmco throughout the game. The advantage of two imports against only Chadrack Lufile for Verve meant they were unable to stop the double threat of Kuete and Deguara who both led Farmco a commanding 47-26 lead at the half.

Verve veteran shooter, Lee Chien Chung started the third making two free throws but he was unable to find his scoring form tonight as he shot a dismal 16% from the field tonight. The flow of the game remained similar for the rest of the game as Verve were not able to match the physicality of Farmco’s import allowing Farmco to stretch the lead to as many as at 39 . Farmco opted to sub out their imports at the 6:03 mark of the fourth quarter. The game ended in a dominant 90-66 victory for Farmco.
