As we head into the final weekend of regular season games of the Malaysia Pro League Development League 2018, we look at New Ampang Youth Club, KL Dragons and PRG Warrior’s chances at grabbing the second seed to secure automatic qualification into the playoffs semi finals.

NS Matrix has already secured the top spot of the regular season

With an upcoming playoffs schedule with teams potentially playing three games in three days, the second seed is a much coveted spot to keep teams fresh for playoffs weekend

New Ampang Youth Club (6-3)

Final Game- vs Farmco Knight 7/7/18

After the impressive victory over the KL Dragons last weekend, NAYC will need to defeat Farmco Knight to ensure the second seed, having head to head advantages over both the Dragons and PRG Warriors.

Although they are 1-1 against the PRG Warriors, their victory margin was by 23 against PRG’s margin of 3, thus NAYC having the head to head advantage over the PRG Warriors

KL Dragons (6-3)

Final Game- vs Melaka 96ers 7/7/18

The Dragons will need to defeat Melaka and hope that Farmco Knight defeats NAYC to secure the second seed spot

The Dragons have head to head advantage over PRG Warriors, defeating them 78-73 in the regular season.

KL Dragons

PRG Warriors (6-3)

Final Game – vs NS Matrix 8/7/18

PRG will need to defeat the league leaders NS Matrix and hope that both NAYC and the Dragons lose their final games

Although it might be a daunting task for PRG to defeat the league leaders, NS Matrix are coming off a one month break from the league due to their commitments to managing the National Team for the SEABA Pre Qualifiers for FIBA Asia Cup 2021. PRG will look to take their chances against a potentially game rusty NS Matrix.

An interesting scenario could see a potential four way 6-4 tie with Melaka 96ers joining the fray. Melaka would have no opportunity for the second seed though, with NAYC having the head to head advantage over them. Melaka would still have opportunities to leapfrog both the Dragons and PRG, depending on the outcome of their final games

Melaka 96ers are hopeful
