The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) released 15 names that will comprise the pool of players for the Men’s National Team set to represent the country in the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Newly-appointed head coach Tim Cone added six players from his Ginebra San Miguel team into the All-PBA pool, likely for the sake of familiarity to his system.

Cone, who will only lead the squad for the upcoming SEA Games, selected LA Tenorio, Scottie Thompson, Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle, Art Dela Cruz, Jayson Castro, Roger Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Marcio Lassiter, Christian Standhardinger, Chris Ross, June Mar Fajardo, Vic Manuel, and Matthew Wright to be included in the 15-man pool.

Meanwhile, he only selected four players from the recent World Cup squad, leaving out some of the younger standouts from the team such as CJ Perez and Robert Bolick.

Prior to the appointment of the long-time PBA head coach, there were indications that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) intends to send a young ‘cadet’ team to the Games, similar to what they did for the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Regardless of the direction, the hosts continue to be heavy favorites going into the upcoming basketball event at the biennial meet, after dominating the field during past competitions, winning 17 of the past 19 men’s tournaments since 1977.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games basketball tournament is scheduled to be held between December 4-10 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
