It is a clean sweep after Gilas Pilipinas secured another gold medal finish as they completely outclassed Thailand, 115-81, at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Another game, another second half landslide from the Philippines helped them secure their 18th title and assert their dominance in the sport within the region.

Big man Christian Standhardinger and June Mar Fajardo led the way for the Philippines as they combined for 33 points and 24 points, manhandling Thailand’s interior defense.

After a slow start for both teams, the Philippines manage to erect their first double-digit lead of the match early in the second quarter following back-to-back three-pointers from guards Kiefer Ravena and LA Tenorio.

With 13 seconds left in the second period, Thai-American swingman Tyler Lamb hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to cut their deficit down to seven, but Stanley Pringle answered back with a buzzer-beating layup to give the hosts a nine-point cushion going into the half.

However, it is the same old story for Philippine opponents as they once again blew the game with open in the third period. Vic Manuel made a layup more than halfway through the final quarter to give the Philippines their biggest lead of the game at 39.

Matthew Wright and Vic Manuel each scored 14 points for the Philippines in the blowout victory.

Tyler Lamb led all scorers with 33 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists, while big man Chanatip Jakrawan contributed 15 points, eight boards, and two blocked shots in the loss.

With the win, the Philippines finishes with a historic 18th basketball gold medal at the biennial meet, while Thailand wins their eight overall silver medal. The hosts also managed to sweep all four SEA Games basketball events after winning both Men’s and Women’s 3X3 and 5-on-5 basketball tournaments.
