It looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Tam Dinh this year, seeing as he just signed a multi-team contract deal. Yeah, you read that right. He will be returning to play for the Can Tho Catfish, the Saigon Heat, and Vietnam’s national team. Now just to clarify things before you start freaking out, Tam will be suiting up for the Catfish during the 2017 VBA season, following that up with a stint on the Heat for the 2017-2018 ABL season.

Tam is ready to take on the challenge this year as he will be competing in three different back-to-back-to-back leagues for Vietnam, with the first competition being the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The opening ceremony is set to start on August 19th and drawing to a close on August 30th. With little to no downtime, Tam will then jump right into the second season of the Vietnam Basketball Association before finishing his year competing in the ASEAN Basketball league with the Heat.

“I’m super excited!! I can’t wait to put on that Vietnam jersey and finally make history for our country!” says Tam.

Averaging 19.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.4 BPG during the 2016 VBA season, Tam is looking to stay healthy this year as he was dealing with a back injury towards the end of the season. Fighting through the pain, Tam persevered and finished the season not wanting to let his team down while they battled for the last playoff spot, which ultimately resulted in a loss to the Dragons.

With the addition of another team into the ranks of the VBA and a contract showing commitment to a promising player, basketball’s popularity and its community is gaining some serious steam in Vietnam. Along with that, it’s also apparent that Vietnam wants to compete at a very high level in international competition. The results still remain to be seen, however, one thing is certain, Vietnam basketball is headed in the right direction.
