Xavier Alexander has offiically signed to join the Hi-Tech Basketball Club as one of their imports for the ongoing season of the Thailand Basketball League (TBL).
Alexander most recently appeared in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Playoffs, where his Singapore Slingers lost to Thai giants Mono Vampire Basketball Club in the semifinals. He averaged 24.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 2.6 steals a ball game through the season.
“We are always looking for pieces that will help us achieve the ultimate goal and that is winning the championship,” shared head coach Chris Daleo. “My seasons here at Hi-Tech have produced a nice 52-and-8 record. But the championship is the ultimate goal.”
Hi-Tech has decided to revamp the roster significantly, after finishing second place in the previous three combined TBL and Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL) seasons. The versatile forward replaces Arnold Louis in the line-up, who has been cut after not meeting the team’s expectations
The team has added national team point guard Nattakarn Muangboon from Mono Thewphaingarm, and ABL veterans Justin Howard and Thai-American swingman Tyler Lamb, while also retaining high-scoring guard Avery Scharer.
As a three-year veteran for the Slingers, the 6’6″ forward is no stranger to close finishes himself, making the playoffs each of his three seasons including leading the Singapore squad to a runner-up finish in the 2016 ABL Finals.
Alexander joins his former Slingers teammate Justin Howard in Hi-Tech’s bid to try and finally get over the hump and take home the championship, something that has also evaded them during their time in the ABL.
“By watching the ABL all season long, we were able to see that Xavier can play multiple positions, is an aggressive player, and after making some calls we found out he is a professional on and off the court,” added the American coach.
Even after going undefeated during the regular season through the semifinals last year, Hi-Tech lost both games to Mono Vampire during the championship round. The team hopes the addition of Alexander and the other new key pieces could very well be what is needed for them to finally take home the championship.
