The Danang Dragons and Saigon Heat recently announced their world imports for the 2019 Vietnam Basketball League (VBA) season, with the former picking up 6’9” forward Anthony January, and the latter returning the services of Tavarion Nix for his second season in Saigon.

After missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons following a championship title in the VBA’s inaugural season back in 2016, the Danang Dragons will enter the 2019 season with hopes that Anthony January Jr. can help lead the team back into the postseason.

The former Cal State San Bernardino Coyote brings with him a wide range of professional experience that includes the NBA G-League with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Georgian Basketball Super League with BC Cactus Tbilisi, and the Thailand Basketball Super League with PEA Basketball Club.

By now, VBA fans should be familiar with Tavarion Nix. The athletic 6-foot-7 forward first began his Vietnam domestic league career in 2016 with the Cantho Catfish, where he averaged 18.0 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. In his return to the league last season for the Heat, Nix displayed tremendous improvement in his offensive arsenal, increasing his scoring output to 25.9 points per contest.

With the Heat adding heritage import Richard Nguyen from the 2019 VBA Draft, the team will be looking to make it past the opening round of the postseason for the first time with a widely untouched core from last season of Tran Dang Khoa, Tim Waale, Trieu Han Minh, Du Minh An, and the return of Tavarion Nix.

The 2019 VBA season is set to commence in June.
