The Saigon Heat captured a 66-49 victory over the defending champion Can Tho Catfish in Game 4 to force a fifth and deciding game in the 2019 Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) Finals.
Following the game’s opening tip, the home-sided Heat jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind a strong start from local player Tim Waale.
The advantage continued into the second period, as the Catfish were unable to match the firepower of Saigon with the suspension of heritage starting guard Sang Dinh due to meeting the league’s technical foul quota and a less than 100 percent Tam Dinh, who was battling an injury sustained from Game 3.
Holding onto an 11-point lead to start the second half, the Heat continued to be unrelenting with the high stakes at hand. With the game going through its final stretch, the home side remained consistent, maintaining its double-digit lead to seal the Final’s penultimate game 66-49.
Despite the low-scoring affair, Tim Waale had an outstanding game for the Heat, putting up an impressive double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds while converting on 75 percent of his field goal attempts.
With the series now tied at two games apiece, Game 5 of the 2019 VBA Finals shifts back to Can Tho on Tuesday, September 17, to determine this season’s champion.
