Four teams will battle for two tickets to the 2019 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in the upcoming East Inter-Sub Zone Qualifiers in Thailand.

There are two champion teams from the Southeast Asian region participating in the qualifiers: Hitech Basketball Club of the Thailand Basketball League, and the Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association (SAFSA) of the National Basketball League.

Joining them are the reigning Chinese Taipei Super Basketball League (SBL) champions and newest ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) squad Fubon Braves, and India’s 33rd Federation Cup winners Punjab Police Team.

All four teams will battle each other in a single round robin where the top two squads advance to be a part of the final eight teams in the club championships later this year.

Once the two finalists advance to the 28th edition of the Champions Cup, they will join the reigning champion teams from the ‘Big 3’ East Asian leagues that have automatic berths to the tournament.

Back-to-back reigning Japanese titlists Alvark Tokyo of B.League, nine-time Chinese league champions Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), and the Korean Basketball League (KBL) winners Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus are all through to the Final 8 of the Champions Cup.

Another Southeast Asian team from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is also expected to participate, as the league also has a bye to the tournament. However, they have not been sending actual reigning champion teams in recent years, for various reasons.

On the other side of the continent, two more teams from the Gulf and West Arab subzones will also advance as they compete in the West Inter-Sub Zone qualifiers that will round out the final cast of eight.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2019 East Inter-Sub Zone Qualifiers will take place between August 13-15 at the Thai-Japanese Youth Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
