Newly-crowned ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan ‘The General’ Haggerty will make his first title defense against Rodtang ‘Iron Man’ Jitmuangnon at ONE: Dawn of Heroes.
The 22-year old Haggerty captured the title in May after pulling off a dominant decision against the legendary Muay Thai icon Sam-A Gaiyanghadao at ONE: For Honor in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The equally youthful challenger, Rodtang, who already amassed more than 300 professional bouts throughout his career and currently is undefeated in his ONE Super Series run, has proven worthy of his moniker.
As both Muay Thai fighters clash in the co-main event, the British champion has a solid strategy in place to retain his title at night’s end.
“(Jitmuangnon) is a very come-forward fighter. I’ve been training hard, I know what I’m going to expect and I have a game plan which I always do,” he said. “This title is going to be staying with me. This is what I do. This is what I love. I’m here to stay champion.”
Rodtang, on the other hand, relishes an opportunity to put on a show in front of the Filipino fans in the biggest card ever in Philippine history.
“This is the most important bout of my career,” said the Muay Thai superstar. “Fighting for a world title in ONE Championship is something every fighter dreams of. To all my fans around the world, please support me this coming Friday. I will do my best.”
The talented young fighters contest the Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship when they clash at ONE: Roots of Honor tonight at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
