Satria Muda got the rug pulled from under their feet today by the Yulon Luxgen Dinos in a close match, 88-85.
The Jakarta-based team was indeed informed that they would be playing the Taiwanese team today, but most media members in the arena had expected them to play NLEX-SCTEX after the Filipino team beat Yulon in the classification game just a day prior.
The game started pretty close with the IBL Indonesia finalists taking the first quarter by three points, before the Dinos came back in the second quarter to outscore them by seven and snatched the lead going into intermission.
Dinos captain Lu Cheng-ju led his team in the scoring column with 11 points and two steals, while his backcourt mates Chou Po-chen and Lu Kuan-liang added eight points apiece. Pertamina guard Gary Jacobs Jr. had a pretty slow start in the fist half but fellow import Shawn Taggart picked up the slack by scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
The Dinos threatened to pull away, continuing with their three-point barrage, leading by eight with less than five minutes to go in the third, but Jacobs and Taggart kept the ship afloat with 14 combined points, ending the quarter just down by four.
The game continued in a back-and-forth with the Dinos leading by single digits for most of the final period. An SMP come back proved to be too little too late, with big man Dior Lawhorn’s three at the of the game clanking off the rim.
Yulon Luxgen’s Lu Cheng-ju finished with 19 points, Chou Po-chen added 16, and big man Lee Te-wei had a good second half to get his total to 13 points and seven boards. Shawn Taggart led SMP with 33 points and 12 rebounds, while Gary Jacobs Jr. and Dior Lawhorn added 21 and 15 points respectively. No local player scored in double figures.
The Dinos move to 6th place with the win, while Satria Muda Pertamina retains 5th and NLEX-SCTEX fell to 7th via the quotient system.
