After announcing on Friday that they would not be retaining starting forward from the 2016-2017 ABL season, Lenny Daniel, the Saigon Heat have made a move in signing Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott to occupy the import spot vacated by Daniel just three days later. Scott, a two-way player, is the first big-time signing under new Head Coach Kyle Julius.
The 6’0” guard appeared in 28 games for the Lightning where he averaged 19.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 51% from the field, including 35% from beyond the arc.
Scott also has international experience playing as a member of Jamaica’s Mens National Basketball Team, participating at the FIBA Americas Championship in 2013. He most recently played for Universidad de Concepion in Chile’s national league where he was named to the league’s all-first team and defensive player of the year in 2017.
The Saigon Heat open up their 2017-2018 ABL campaign at home on Saturday, December 9, 2017, against the Formosa Dreamers.
