The PRG Eagles soared into the semi finals of the Malaysia Pro League 2017 defeating the Penang Stallions 85-63
The Eagles would bring back American import, Patrick Sanders who was rested for their previous game but were missing young upstarts, Heng Yee Tong and Thea Zhong Shin, who were away representing Malaysia at the Fiba Asia 3X3 Championship in Mongolia
Eagles would start the quarter quick through a three pointer by Ma Chee Kheun which was quickly replied by the Stallion’s Jayson Lee who was looking to continue his fine scoring run. The Eagles would take the advantage early on using their size advantage to race to an early 9-2 lead before a strong And1 play by Stallion’s Filpino import Jhapz Bautista.
The Stallions would then employ a full court double team press on Sanders which proved to be an effective strategy as Stallions kept the game close with Bautista tying the game with a three pointer at the end of the quarter. A foul by Steven Lee on Sanders would allow Sanders to make two free throws to end the quarter giving Stallions a slim 25-23 lead at the end of the first
Sanders who had a tough first quarter finally scored his first three of the game at the 9:00 mark to start the second quarter. It would be a tight affair early with both teams playing tight defense keeping the scores low. Eagle’s big import, Anthony McClain would make his presence felt inside making two inside baskets before the Stallions would score their first points of the quarter at the 5:19 mark with three free throws made by Ooi Jun Jin. The score would be close until the later stages of the second as Chin Zhi Shin and Ryan Liaw scored the final nine points of the quarter to stretch the Eagle’s lead to 12 going into the half. The score at the half would be Eagles 48 Stallions 36.
A strong dunk by McClain at the start of the third would be start of a 19-4 run for the Eagles as their strong defense and their height advantage pushed their lead to 27 at the 5:18 mark led by Liaw and Chin who combined for ten points. Stallions were not able to mount a comeback in the third and suffered a further blow with Steven Lee fouling out of the game late in the third. Eagles would end the quarter leading 72-44.
Stallions start the fourth with a 4-0 run off points from Bautista and Ong Wen Hong before McClain once again made his presence felt with three dunks that kept the Eagles firmly in control. Stallions took both McClain and Sanders out at the 5:00 mark with the semi finals in mind tomorrow. The tired Stallions would not be able to make a significant run as the game finished 85-63 in favor of the Eagles
The Eagles will face the KL Dragons Basketball Academy in the semi finals on Saturday , 28th October 2017 while the Stallions will face King Pinas Asia in the fifth placing game on Sunday ,29th October 2017.

Anthony McClain was an imposing force yet again for the Eagles, leading the way with 25 points (10/11 FG), 10 rebounds and seven blocks.
