Filipino guard Almond Vosotros has stepped up to the plate for Thai basketball club Mono Thewphaingarm in the current season of the Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL).
The former 13th overall pick in the 2015 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Draft has adjusted into the system and played even better in their last two games, first was in a blowout win against T-Rex where he notched 16 points off an efficient 8-of-12 shooting from the floor, adding five assists, five rebounds, a block, and a steal. He also had an impressive outing in their heartbreaking one-point loss against Mekong United where he finished with 25 points (11-22 FG%), four rebounds, nine assists assists, and a steal.
“Actually, now all I am doing is to adjust and do whatever it takes to help the team consistently. Unfortunately, we still come up short at times. I think we need to play better together and also rely on local players at imports to reach out goal, which is to make the playoffs. I know we can do better.” said Vosotros.
Mono Thew has a solid core team that has advanced to the TBSL Finals last season: Locals Darunpong Apiromvilaichai, Jittphon Towaroj, Tawatchai Suktub, Napporn Sangtong, Thailand national team member Nattakarn Muangboon, and world imports Anthony McClain and Patrick Sanders would make this team a solid playoff contender.
Even with a PBA return still in his sights, Vosotros vows he is fully dedicated to help the team push for the playoffs.
“I like it here, but we all know there is no long-term contracts as imports,” shares Vosotros. “Unlike in the PBA where it is more secure and we typically have longer terms. I do hope they (PBA teams) are still watching, but right now my only focus is here to help us go further.”
Mono Thewphaingarm currently stands at fifth place with a 3-3 record and is set to play Filipino club team Kabayan on February 17.
