With most of the teams having already announced their World Import player for the upcoming 2018 Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) season, it was the Can Tho Catfish’s turn to add 2017 Defensive Player of the Year awardee DeAngelo Hamilton back to their squad.

Hamilton publicly announced via Facebook that he has re-signed with the team on Wednesday afternoon following stints with Madgoat Basketball Club during the 2018 Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL) season and most recently in Mongolia.

Known as the “Block Machine,” Hamilton averaged 20.4 points, 16.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and an astonishing 3.2 blocks per game during the 2017 VBA Season. The Catfish will be looking to maintain a stalwart defensive presence with the return of Hamilton, while also bolstering their offense which has already added former Hanoi Buffaloes sixth-man Hoang Ca after the guard was acquired in a trade earlier in the offseason.

As for Catfish fans, they have been eagerly awaiting the return of the “Block Machine” with open arms in hopes of another deep playoff run towards the 2018 VBA championship. Last season, the team finished as runner-ups, ultimately losing to the Thang Long Warriors in a high-octane series which saw the expansion team come out on top with a 3-2 series victory.

The American power-forward/center wasn’t shy about his expectations for the season, expressing: “Time to claim what belongs to CTC.” With that being said, it’s clear that DeAngelo Hamilton is determined and ready to fight with the Can Tho Catfish to gain what he feels belongs to the VBA’s southern-most club.

The Can Tho Catfish will kick-off their preseason with a matchup against the Saigon Heat on May 31, 2018.
