The Philippines Men’s 3X3 team took home another win after playing inspired basketball against world number three Russia in their final 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup game.
Despite falling out of contention to advance to the knockout stage after losing against Canada earlier in the day, the Filipinos had an extra bounce in their step as they came out for their last game of the tournament.
Troy Rosario opened up the scoring for the Filipino squad with a two-ball at the top of the key, followed by three-straight points Stanley Pringle off a two and a driving layup.
The Canadians were able to score two successive baskets but Pringle answered back with three more, with forward Troy Rosario adding two long bombs to extend the lead to 14-3 with 4:17 remaining in the game.
Gilas Pilipinas slowed down in the end-game, not being able to close the game at 21 points, but they were able to hold off the opponents to finish the game at 19-9.
Stanley Pringle had a game-high nine points. followed by the breakout game for Troy Rosario who had eight. RR Pogoy added two points, while Christian Standhardinger failed to convert a basket.
Russia’s Victor Pavlenko was able to string six points against very stingy Gilas Pilipinas defense, while Dmitry Korshakov added four. Maksim Dybovskii and Ilya Alexandrov had one point each.
Gilas Pilipinas finished 2-2 in the pool stage of the tournament, joining Russia and Brazil among teams who failed to qualify for the next round. Philippine team tormentors Canada and Mongolia will advance to play elite teams Netherlands and Serbia, respectively, in the quarterfinal stage.
