Melaka 96ers 95 Seven Star 64
Melaka 96ers secure their MPL Development League playoffs ticket with a resounding 31 point victory over Seven Star
Melaka would be missing two of their key players, Wee Joon Lock and Wee Yong Gan for today while Seven Star would have their own personnel issues, only having seven players available for today’s game
Led by the hot shooting of Tan Wei Jie and Liew Hon Ming, Melaka would have clear control of the game in the first half not allowing Seven Star any opportunities at grabbing the lead. Melaka would make it a double digit lead off back to back baskets by Liew in the second quarter before Ng Jien Jek would score a three to ensure Seven Star cut the deficit to single digits going into the break
Melaka came out the break hot, starting the second half on a 13-2 run to stretch the lead to 19 after a Lee Hon Ming three pointer. Melaka would keep the momentum stretching the lead to 25 off a Tan Wei Jie layup midway through the third
Melaka would not look back for the rest of the game as Seven Star’s short rotation issue caught up to them, showing little attempt at defense for the closing stages of the game. Melaka finished the game with a final Goh Yu Neng three pointer making it a 31 point game.
Tan Wei Jie would earn player of the game honors, with a double double of 37 points and 10 rebounds ; bouncing back in fashion after a poor showing against the KL Dragons the day before. Tan Wei Jie’s 37 points would be the highest points made in a game for the season.
Melaka’s playoffs opponents will be determined after the league’s review on the appeal by Farmco Knight on the results of their game against Red Baron. Melaka will finish 5th or 6th in the standings depending on the outcome of the review
Melaka have head to head advantage over Farmco while Red Baron have the advantage over them
