Farmco Knight 82 New Ampang Youth Club (NAYC) 65

In a game which NAYC needed to win to secure the second seed for automatic qualification into the semi finals, it would be Farmco Knight who emerged victorious with the 82-65 victory.

Farmco would be determined following their colossal collapse to Red Baron the weekend before and rushed to a 8-0 run to start the game led by the speedy Low Ken Yen. NAYC would keep their composure and would go on their own run to keep the game close. Ho Yeow Loong would cut the lead to only two at the end of the first quarter.

A three pointer by Syahrul Ridzuan early in the second quarter would briefly give NAYC the lead because Ong Chin Yuen would retake the lead for Farmco off a putback basket. In a low scoring second quarter with both teams playing tight defense and shooting cold, the man deemed to be key in Farmco’s collapse the weekend before, Choo Wei Hong would go on a tear in the second quarter, scoring all of his seven points in the second quarter to make it a six point game going into the half.

Low Ken Yen started Farmco’s second half with a bang, scoring four straight points to quickly make it a double digit game . Low would score an impressive 12 in third quarter to ensure Famrco take a 10 point lead entering the fourth quarter.

A 5-0 run by NAYC at the start of the fourth would see them cutting the lead to as close as five. Low Ken Yen would yet again take the game over, scoring six straight points to keep Farmco firmly in control. NAYC would battle for most of the fourth quarter until a Farmco’s Lee Kwong Fai layup  would make it a 12 point lead with two minutes remaining for the game. Farmco would increase their winning margin through free throws to end the game with a 17 point victory.

As per our earlier article , Farmco Knight will now be awaiting the outcome of their appeal in the coming days which will determine their playoffs qualification status.

The player of the game would be none other than Low Ken Yen with his best performance of the season. He would finish with 28 points (50% shooting), 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

KL Dragons 63 Melaka 96ers 49

KL Dragons defeated Melaka 63-49 to secure the second seed spot in a close encounter which only saw the Dragons pull away late in the game.

Melaka would be missing key player, Wee Joon Lock for the game.

It would be a tight first quarter with both teams struggling with poor shooting and turnovers. Melaka’s Wee Yong Gan was looking to continue his fine form with a jumper that gave Melaka the lead late in the first. The Dragons would turn to Joshua Gan who was returning after a two game absence, who made a three pointer with a minute remaining to give the Dragons a slim two point advantage at the end of the first. Joshua Gan would score 9 out of the Dragons 13 points for the quarter.

The second quarter would remain close with both teams trading leads but never pulling away by more than three. Melaka’s Goh Yu Neng would make the buzzer beating basket to give Melaka the two point advantage going into the half.

The Dragon’s leading scorer, Chin Cheng Wah would make a teardrop basket midway though the third to give the Dragons a slim advantage. The game would look to slowly fall away from Melaka as they started to commit turnovers as fatigue looked to catch up to the team with veterans Chee Li Wei and Wong Wee Seng playing the entire game up to that point. Back to back three pointers by John Ng and Sebastian Ang would give the Dragons a ten point lead late in the third to force a Melaka timeout. Melaka would be able to cut it to eight at the end of the third.

Melaka would start the fourth in careless fashion, conceding two straight baskets to Izran Edika off turnovers which gave the Dragons a 12 point lead early in the fourth. A dagger three pointer by Chiang Wei Er with four minutes remaining would put the Dragons up by 14. Melaka would decide to withdraw their key starters at this point with their final regular season game against Seven Star in mind. The lead would remain for the Dragons until the final buzzer.

The player of the game would be the Dragons leading rebounder, Joshua Gan who finished with an impressive statline of 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

With NAYC’s loss earlier, the Dragons now leapfrog them with a 7-3 record. The Dragons have head to head advantage over the PRG Warriors (6-3), hence securing the second seed spot.

With the results of the game between Farmco Knight and Red Baron in balance, Melaka will need to defeat Seven Star in their final game of the regular season to ensure qualification into the playoffs.
