The Indonesian Men’s National Team will be participating in the 2018 William Jones Cup in Taiwan, as part of PERBASI Indonesia’s continuous preparation for the upcoming 18th Asian Games.

Replacing the Indian national team for this tournament, Indonesia will look continue building momentum after recently sweeping the FIBA Asia Cup pre-qualifying tournament, taking home the gold against fellow Southeast Asian teams from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Cambodia.

As upcoming hosts of the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, they also held a Test Event back in February as part of their preparation and won the top spot against India, Thailand, and Timor Leste.

Reigning IBL MVP Xaverius Prawiro, Abraham Damar Grahita, Andakara Prastawa Dhyaksa, and Sandy Febiansyakh Kurniawan will lead Timnas in the backcourt, while Arki Dikania Wisnu, Kaleb Ramot Gemilang, Kevin Yonas Argadiba Sitorus, Ponsianus Nyoman Indrawan, Firman Dwi Nugroho, and Valentino Wuwungan will all return to bolster the frontcourt for Timnas Indonesia.

Juan Laurent Kokodiputra, and naturalized player Jamarr Andre Johnson will not be joining the team in Taiwan. They will be replaced in the line-up by Pelita Jaya center Adhi Pratama Prasetyo Putra, and Stapac Jakarta import Kore Ricardo White.

The team will again be handled by head coach Fictor Gideon Roring, and assistant coaches Jonhannis Winar and Youbel Sondakh. A majority of the players were also intentionally made part of the Pelita Jaya-Indonesia squad that finished second place to Mono Vampire (Thailand) in the recent FIBA Asia Champions Cup SEABA Qualifiers.

Aside from Indonesia, there will also be representatives from Iran, Japan, Lithuania, South Korea, and two teams from hosts Chinese Taipei. There will also be squads from Canada (3D Global Sports) and the Philippines (Ateneo de Manila University), albeit non-national teams.

The 2018 William Jones Cup will be held between July 17-22 at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
