Despite successfully organizing the first ever Malaysia Pro League Development League in 2018, the board of the Malaysia Pro League (MPL) released a statement announcing that they would not be able to organize a main conference in 2018 due to the tight scheduling of events for the 2018 Malaysian Basketball calendar.

The league would not be able to find a resolution to meet each team’s preferred schedule, thus leading to  the decision to resume the league in 2019.

The decision would be the latest speed bump in the Malaysian basketball scene’s attempt at organizing a consistent national league to provide players with the opportunities to participate in high level competition as well as develop their talents.

The 2017 MPL edition, won by Farcochem Touch Up, was the first national league to be held after a four year hiatus.
