After announcing the signing of Khoa Tran just a day prior, the Saigon Heat have now also made it official that the team will be bringing in Justin Young to help strengthen their 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) roster.

Young, who also goes by Duong Vinh Luan, has been on the Heat’s ABL wish list dating back to last season, when rumors surfaced that he would be joining the team, however, the move ultimately did not transpire.

This season, fans should certainly expect one of Vietnam’s most experienced players to make his ABL debut, with Young addressing via the team’s Facebook page: “I’m very excited to be playing in the ABL this year. It has been one of my goals to be in this league and I thank the Saigon Heat organization for making this happen.”

Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) fans have recognized the presence of Young during his three seasons in the league, as he has been in the running for Defensive Player of the Year for three years in a row, including winning the award in his first season. He has also been to the VBA Finals twice, being crowned a champion with the Thang Long Warriors during the 2017 season. In 2018, Young averaged 14.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for the Warriors before they fell to the Hanoi Buffaloes in the first round of the playoffs.

Widely known for his defensive prowess, the Vietnamese-American forward has also enjoyed stints in the Thailand Basketball Super League (TBSL), playing for the Hanoi Buffaloes and PEA in 2017 and 2018 respectively. With extensive experience on his professional resume, Justin Young should be able to contribute immediately for a Saigon Heat team that has strong aspirations to make a deep playoff run in ABL 9.
