Mono Vampire Basketball Club came up short in their upset bid against the defending FIBA Asia Champions Cup titlists Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut, falling to the Lebanese squad in overtime, 106-100.

The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) runners-up had a chance to win the game had import Marcus Keene’s completed his point-blank layup that came after Mark Lyons clutch three to tie the game for Al Riyadi with eight ticks left in the fourth quarter.

The Thai club had a two-point advantage at the half, but saw themselves having had to claw back after being down for most of the final quarter.

Al Riyadi ran a very tight rotation that saw four of their starters combine for 95 points. Amir Saoud top scored for the Lebanese club with 30, while Mark Lyons and Bassel Bawji added 27 and 25 points each.

Resident import Mike Singletary led Mono Vampire with 30 point and 20 rebounds, while Marcus Keene continued to impress with 25 markers of his own, while also adding eight assists in the losing effort.

Thai national team big man Teerawat Chantachon broke out with 21 points and 9 boards but left in the final stretches of the game due to cramping.

Mono Vampire will try to clinch a spot in the knockout round as they battle Alvark Tokyo tomorrow at 15:30 (+7 GMT) at the Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
