Hong Kong Eastern 103 Fubon Braves 91

Hong Kong Eastern kept their semi finals qualifications hopes alive with a a 103-91 over the Fubon Braves from Taiwan.

Eastern would come out strong in the face of elimination, building the lead to as high as 14 midway in the second quarter of a step back jumper by Trey Gilder, as he was determined to bounce back after a subpar first game against the Illawarra Hawks.

Eastern would however be dealt with a blow as star player Marcus Elliott would be called for three quick personal fouls in a span of a minute late in the second quarter, sending him to bench with four fouls.

With Elliott sitting out for most of the quarter, Fubon would begin their comeback, chipping away with efficient leak out baskets by Jet Chang and Joseph Lin. Fubon would gain the lead late in the third off a dunk by Shaquille Keith. Just as Fubon thought they would take the lead going into the fourth, Elliot would show why he was the 2016/2017 ABL MVP with a layup off the glass to give Eastern a one point lead going into the fourth.

Fubon would start the fourth quarter on a 8-1 run off three straight baskets with the foul. Trey Gilder would then go on a personal six point scoring run to keep the game close. Fubon would suffer a huge blow with big men Daniel Orton and Wu Hung Hsing fouling out of the game with five minutes remaining. With the lack of size in the paint, Eastern would have their way with Samuel Deguara and Trey Gilder pounding inside, allowing Eastern to finish the game with the 103-91 win.

Trey Gilder would lead Eastern with 28 points and 6 rebounds while local captain, Lee Ki would score 22 points including four three pointers.
