Nearly a month ago, ONE Championship made its first major signing of the year by adding former Bellator and UFC fighter Eddie Alvarez to its continuously expanding roster. With an extensive track record like the one that Alvarez possesses, one can’t help but to ponder on the possible match-ups he could face in Asia’s premier martial arts promotion.

And ponder we have by listing three exciting opponents that “The Underground King” could potentially encounter.

Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki have a decorated rivalry dating back to 2008 when they first fought each other in K-1, with Aoki getting the best of Alvarez via a Heel Hook Submission in the first round. In their 2012 Bellator rematch, Alvarez made sure to equalize against the Japanese fighter with a first round TKO victory. Fast forward to 2018 and both are again in the same mixed martial arts promotion. A trilogy fight would finally settle the score between these two.

Amir Khan

(11 wins – 3 losses)

Only 23 years of age, Singapore’s Amir Khan is making a mark not only in the division, but also to ONE Championship as a whole due to his exciting knock out finishes. Khan holds a record of 11 wins and three losses, with only one of his victories going the distance. His other previous bouts have ended either by TKO (8) or submission (2). A meeting with Alvarez will greatly test this young warrior early on in his career in a match that according to history, should be full of fireworks and firepower.

Eduard “Landslide” Folayang

(20 wins – 6 losses)

Philippines

Dubbed as the greatest Filipino mixed martial artist, Eduard Folayang is the most honored MMA bruiser from the Philippines. Even at 34 years old, Folayang still brawls like he is in his prime years. A win over then ONE Lightweight champion Shinya Aoki in 2016 solidified his position at the peak of the weight class, but a major career blow hit him hard after Martin Nguyen gave him a devastating knock out loss last year which cost his crown. However, Folayang has since vindicated himself with back-to-back wins against Atlageriev and Pahrudinov, consequently earning himself another crack at the championship. A super showdown with “The Underground King” promises a very thrilling match that fans will surely look forward to.
