Mono Vampire Basketball Club continued their winless streak in the season nine of ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), as they fall to the unbeaten Formosa Dreamers, 66-71.
At the end of the first quarter, Formosa’s Malcolm Miller managed to scored a lay-up to give his team a seven-point lead, even as Mono Vampire’s latest addition Chris Charles made sure his defensive presence and leadership felt.
The Dreamers continued to maintain their single-digit lead throughout the second quarter, but the visiting team was able to display their composur, led by Jason Brickman, who already had 11 points including three shots from deep to cut the deficit into six going into the half.
The combination of Miller and William Artino handled most of Dreamers’ scoring on the first half of game. However, the home team went nearly three minutes without scoring after Mono Vampire’s Darongpan Apiromvilaichai fired from beyond the arc and Mike Singletary scored 10 points and gave his team a five points lead before the final quarter.
Kenneth Chien opened the final quarter with a quick basket resulting from Mono Vampire’s careless turnover, then veteran Shih Nien Chen cut the deficit closer before Singletary continued his hot shooting from perimeter line.
Formosa’s Will Artino then took care of the game with his versatility and smart basketball IQ against the fierce Vampire. The 6’11” American center made his inside presence felt against the Charles in the final quarter, and able to finished a game-high 26 points and 19 rebounds.
Teammate Tevin Glass was limited, but Malcolm Miller contributed 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists to help secure the victory. The Dreamers also transformed their opponent’s 11 turnovers into 17 points.
The Vampire’s bench was not able to contribute much like usual, but the starters were able to keep the game close. Charles dropped 19 points, 22 boards and six swipes, complimented with Singletary’s 24 points and 10 boards.
Both teams are set for their rematch on December 15 at Mono 29 Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
