The Mono Vampire Basketball Club ended their winless streak by beating the erstwhile unbeaten Formosa Dreamers at home, 89-74.

It was Mono Vampire’s Mike Singletary who led the home team to a strong first quarter finish, doing an all-around job in the offensive end, but the visiting Dreamers managed to cut the deficit into five points after Wu Sung Wei made a buzzer three at the end.

In the second quarter, Jason Brickman continued to facilitate the Vampires to lead them in an 7-0 run. The away team once again cut the deficit to a one-possession game behind Wu and Malcolm Miller’s hot shooting. Miller tied up the game at 40-apiece in the beginning of second half with a couple of free throws.

Mono Vampire gave away their lead for the first time after Miller drilled in another one from deep at the 7:13 mark. However, Singletary hit back to ensure his team stays in the game by driving more frequently throughout the entire quarter. Brickman’s deep shots and Chris Charles’s defensive presence also helped the Vampire to an 11-point lead at the end of third quarter.

After Dreamers import William Artino sat for the entire second half due to food poisoning, the team was unable to get play offense and defense smoothly. It was only Miller who performed at the usual standard and Wu’s deadly shooting that gave the visiting team alive. The home team sealed the victory after having a comfortable 17 points lead at the last four minutes of the game.

Singletary finished the game with 34 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting an efficient 70 percent from the field. Teammate Jason Brickman turned in 16 points and 14 assists, helping Mono Vampire to 34 fast-break points from their transition game.

For the Dreamers, Miller and Wu contributed 39 points in total, while import Tevin Glass only managed to make one basket to score seven points and add nine boards in the loss.

Both teams will play their next game away from home, as the Taiwanese team head to the Philippines to challenge the defending champions San Miguel Alab Pilipinas on 21st of December. Meanwhile, Mono Vampire will play against the Saigon Heat and look to build a winning record on 22nd of December at the CIS Arena in Saigon, Vietnam.
