San Miguel Alab Pilipinas extends their winning streak to seven games after handing Hong Kong Eastern a 96-81 decision.
The defending champions started the game on fire, building a double-digit lead late in the first quarter, before a spirited Eastern fightback capped by a Chan Siu Wing three gave the home team the lead at 53-50 with 12 seconds remaining in the first half.
Reigning local MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr. quickly answered back with a buzzer-beating three to enter the half in a deadlock. Both teams continued to go back-and-forth before Alab Pilipinas broke the game wide open again in the fourth quarter.
Eastern had little answer for Renaldo Balkman, as the world import MVP candidate notched 10 points in the payoff period as the Philippine squad continued to extend the lead towards the finish.
Balkman tallied 32 points, seven boards, and four assists, while Parks Jr. reminded everyone of his status as the reigning local MVP with 23 points and seven rebounds, while shooting 75 percent from the field.
O’darien Bassett led the Hong Kong side with 24 points and seven rebounds, while big man Samuel Deguara finished with a double-double of 20 points and 16 boards. Marcus Elliott added 18 points, seven rebounds, and six dimes in the loss.
The league-leading Alab Pilipinas (13-2) will remain in Hong Kong for a rematch with Eastern (11-9) on February 13.
