The “Unstoppable” has been temporarily halted due to a serious back injury.
On Monday morning, Chatri Sityodtong, ONE Championship’s CEO and chairman, announced sad and shocking news concerning Atomweight Champion Angela Lee.
Sityodtong posted on his Facebook account that Lee will not be able to compete in the upcoming ONE event on Friday night (November 9) against ONE Strawweight Champion Xiong Jing Nan after sustaining a back injury.
“I am bummed to announce that our medical team has deemed ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee unfit to compete in ONE: Heart Of The Lion this Friday November 9,” Sityodtong wrote.
Prior to her setback, the Singaporean mixed martial arts star had her sights set on making history by becoming the first ever two-division female combat queen.
“..she suffered a serious back injury in training last week and badly herniated a spinal disc; she was unable to walk just a few days ago. Doctors suspect that the injury originally happened last year when Angela’s car flipped five times on the highway in her near-death accident,” the ONE chairman added regarding how Lee sustained the injury.
China’s Jing Nan, Lee’s slated opponent at ONE: Heart Of The Lion, will also not see any action on fight night since there were no immediate replacements for Angela available on such short notice.
However, Angela’s younger brother Christian has filled in the void that was left by his sister as he will face Kazuki Tokudome in a catch weight (73 kg) co-main event affair.
